Matchday 14 Match Report. Lisboa vs Brussels
By: Conner Munist
This was an important game for the midtable battle, Lisboa winless in the league since Lennon left, whereas Brussels won four of the last five league games. Both teams set up in the usual formation, Lisboa with the Christmas Tree Ancelotti remake and Brussels with the 4-2-2-2. It's fair to say Lisboa have been underperforming in the league, but they are cup winners and had a point to prove.
It was clear from the start Brussels had an inferior team, and Tijani’s set up couldn’t stop Lisboa taking over. Although hogging possession, Lisboa couldn’t score in the first half, with the most noticeable chance being a Finglebottom near own goal. Knull decided to bring on Yilmaz and take off Wood, a bold decision which would prove to pay off.
It wasn’t long in the second half before Lisboa took the lead with a great Warhurst strike to the near post. 10 minutes after, it was the sub Yilmaz who doubled the lead with a tidy finish into the bottom right corner on his left foot. The Turk then started cupping his ears to the home fans, reminding them what he can produce.
Even after 2-0 down, Brussels produced nothing of note. Then in the 84th minute, Lisboa put in a cross where the defender clears it poorly onto the feet of Bjorn Weizenbaun who tucked it away for a 3-0 victory.
A statement victory from Lisboa where we can expect them to climb up the table with the quality they have on the team. On the other hand, we can expect Brussels to have a difficult time as they are yet to play any of the top 4 in the 2nd half of the season.
