Right from the kick-off, it was evident that this match would be a battle of aggression and attack as both teams commanded their players forward. In the early moments, Lisboa earned a corner that sparked a flurry of action. Kodai Senga found himself at the heart of the action, attempting a swift shot off a scrappy corner that was promptly deflected. This resulted in another corner, with Senga once again in the thick of things, only to narrowly miss the target with his subsequent attempt. Amsterdam's defence held firm, defending Lisboa's early advances. In the 20th minute, Lisboa's Bai Chao, the former Amsterdam striker, capitalized on a brilliantly placed cross from Ahmed Zidane. Chao's header found the back of the net, sending the home fans wild celebrating the first goal of the season against their bitter rivals. Despite falling behind, Amsterdam displayed resilience and looked to carve out opportunities of their own. However, the first half unfolded with Lisboa consistently on the offensive, as Lisboa created a series of promising chances. Lisboa grew frustrated as they were stopped by Amsterdam's determined defending and the agile reflexes of goalkeeper Oscar Vert. The second half commenced with more unrelenting intensity, as both teams continued their pursuit of victory. Lisboa's Çağatay Yılmaz broke through in the 50th minute, firing a shot from within the box after a precise pass from Pepe Lozano. Yet, Vert's acrobatic save denied Yılmaz's effort, leaving fans wondering how Lisboa was only leading by one. Amsterdam struggled to find openings until the 70th minute, when substitute Rose Piper incisive pass set up Will O'Neill, who managed to sneak a toe-poked shot past Lisboa's goalkeeper, Bulka Bango Bongo, equalizing the game for Amsterdam.
As the match looked destined for a draw, Bai Chao reclaimed the spotlight in the 88th minute. With a remarkable display of control and precision, Chao secured his brace with a sensational turn-and-shoot effort from outside the box. The ball nestled into the net, unleashing wild celebrations among the Lisboa fans and securing the first victory under Matthew Lennon’s captaincy.
