MD 16: AD LISBOA 0-2 VIENNA KONTINENTAL
Vienna breezes past Lisboa in a Winter Wonderland
By: Ray Porter
Despite a heavy snowstorm hitting the Atlantic City of Lisboa and their opponents fielding a destructive first 11, Vienna would claim a routine victory. Vienna started in their standard 433 with Max Jaxon as their star man on the right of the midfield. Lisboa would try to be hard to break down, fielding 7 defensive players in a nominal, 4321.
Their defensive mindset would show useless early on however, as Vienna would clear a freekick in the opening 10 minutes, smash the ball long towards Jaxon who'd hold off the defense for a while, lay the ball off for Levasseur. The Canadian would later pass the ball to Dos Reis, whose shot from range would find a gap between 5 Lisboa defenders. The man with two fathers strikes first in this fixture.
Lisboa shotstopper Bango Bongo would later deny a Jaxon long shot (15th minute), while Hoffmann would shoot wide when facing him 1 on 1. Overall, Lisboa failed to keep a good defensive profile, being lucky to not have conceded more, while being horrible in attack.
In the second half, luck would turn as Lisboa's keeper Bango Bongo, who had a good game until then, parried a dangerless cross by Kain straight into the feet of Hoffmann who would tap in easily.
Overall, this game fell right into expectation as Vienna breezed past Lisboa who, in spite of their terrible previous games against the visitors, improved significantly. This result sees Vienna extend their lead in the league, continuing the good form they ended the first half of the season in.
