Zagreb Squeeze the Lisbians for Three Points

Match Report: Lisboa v Zagreb MD5

By: Drew Peacock

Title hopefuls Zagreb NK visit mid-table mainstays AD Lisboa in a much-anticipated matchup for this fifth matchday. Two changes for the visitors as Roman Alvarez, who transferred from Lisboa to Zagreb in the off-season was selected to start in favor of jamal Kane. Additionally, Aki PawPaw replaced Marcus Neagu for the first half of this match and Bebe Barry started the game in the attack. Lisboa kept their formation from last week, but added Danny Yogurt and former Zagreb player Nigel Thompson into their lineup. The first goal of the match came in the eighteenth minute. Zagreb's attack had Lisboa's defense pinned deep when FSL veteran Leo Sanic chipped a ball in behind them with just enough loft to give Alvarez a chance to score against his former club. His diving header past Bulka Bango-Bongo is being heralded as an early goal of the season candidate. Zagreb take the lead, 0-1. Zagreb maintained pressure and front-man Jethro was able to orchestrate a bit of chaos at the back and forced David Roy and Bango-Bongo to play the ball out for a corner. Zagreb were able to keep the ball in Lisboa's half to see out the first half holding their one goal lead . Zagreb came out of half-time and quickly doubled their lead. Kamel showing off his excellent hold up play, was able to make a lane for Jethro to turn and shoot through. his rocket knuckling shot was impossible for Bango-Bongo to deal with, 48' Zagreb lead 0-2. Lisboa had their best chance of the match as Ahmed Zidane sent in a dangerous cross that looked to be heading for the corner of Zagreb's goal. Both Majmunovic and Rizzo went to clear it & collided in the net. Had Lisboa striker Kodai Senga done better on his header, the hosts would have halved the lead, but Zagreb came out unscathed. Jethro finished the game off by collecting his brace in the 75' from another great ball in behind by Leo Sanic. Zagreb would take the lead 0-3 as well as all three points. This would result in Zagreb's third clean sheet and third game with three goals already in this young season. Man of the match honors went to Jethro who was able to top a list with several strong performances.
