MD 19: ATHENS KERBEROS 0-3 LONDON WEMBLEY WANDERERS
Written by: Conner Munist
Two sides on the opposite side of the table and both needed a win. Away to Athens was no easy task for London, as they keep lurking behind Vienna in the Season 3 title race. Aaron Hugues is looking to save Athens from relegation with his new signing Marvin Jaxon, a familiar name in the league.
Athens surprised London with possession based football and looked on top for most of the half. Unfortunately, they couldn’t create much out of it, lacking quality in the final pass. London had to wake up in the second half to take the three points home.
Going into the second half, London switched bodied around in their narrow formation, but maintained their system as new signing Marvin Jaxon would guide his team through the half. At first, Athens had the majority of the ball. However, possession doesn’t win games, Rahimi would find Ray Peest on the edge of the box, after awful defending, Peest finds himself with a chance at goal and gives London the lead.
Peest's goal would open the game, as Athens felt the need to “go for it”. After the goal, we saw the London we are familiar with dominating the opposition, the second goal would come from Tomar. After a great skilled, he blasts the ball into the near post top corner. London were still piling the pressure looking for a third, it would eventually come thanks to Amine Amzal with a leaping header from a Hernzey looping cross. The whistle would blow for a 3-0 away win for London.
The big win keeps London 2 points behind the league leaders and distances themselves from the teams behind. Athens are still not in the relegation zone despite losing, and can take some positives from this game into their next.
