Match Summary

MD 21: MADRID 2 - 2 AMSTERDAM

Two teams without much to fight for face off, and to our surprise, provide a bit of entertainment.

Written by: Saad Maan

Amsterdam, after confirming their safety, has seen a shift in philosophy, opting for a more aggressive counter-pressing approach inspired by Australian manager Ange Postecoglou. The biggest benefactor of this new approach has been Australian striker Will O'Neil, who'd once again find himself on the scoresheet - as early as the 4th minute. O'Neil received the ball outside the box, holding off Eye Amgroot, before turning and quickly shooting into the top left corner, giving Jefferson no chance to stop it.

Coming out for the second half, Madrid looked confused, seemingly having been given brand-new instructions. The confusion almost led to disaster, as Amsterdam caused chaos inside of Madrid's box in the 50th minute, hitting the post. Despite the chaos, Madrid quickly settled down and turned the play around, sending captain Billy Boyo through on goal with a smart sequence from the wing. Confident as ever, he slotted it away and crawled to the home fans.

In the 71st minute, super-sub and super-captain Jack David would send in a crafty cross, which midfielder Ollie Karjakin latched onto, the unlikely scorer converted the chance with a magnificent headed effort and gave Amsterdam the lead for the last time this game.

With only two minutes of injury time being added, Amsterdam thought they'd done it. However, one of two female footballers in the league, Rose Piper, was caught admiring Jase Ballenger's luscious curls. Taking full advantage of this, he slipped past her and found himself one-on-one with the keeper. Keeping his cool, he dispatched the chance and sent the crowd into ecstasy. Madrid had completed the comeback and the game would end 2-2.
