Lisboa upset Amsterdam on derby day
By: Ray Porter
Ever since Lennon made his treacherous transfer from Amsterdam to Lisboa, this fixture has been seen as a derby, even though Lennon already has two more teams on his CV. However, this fixture is still a mainstay in both Amsterdam’s and Lisboa’s fans' hearts, and their players gave everything they could on a sunny day in Amsterdam.
Any derby is always the center stage for the referee, and he would take it this time as well, as he gave Amsterdam a freekick on the edge of the box after O’Neill was slightly clipped by Ruben Martínez. Amsterdam failed to take advantage of their freekick as Rose Piper hit the wall. Amsterdam would continue their wasteful attempts as Lozano forced a turnover in Lisboa’s box only to squander his chance in the 1v1. Not to be outdone, Lisboa combined themselves into the box where Warhurst would take a shot only for it to be cleared off the line with a header. All of those chances were inside the first 15 minutes.
The game would continue to deliver, but both teams failed to score in the first half. In the 54th minute, Yilmaz would do it better as he gets to the end of a low driven cross by Weizenbaun only to hammer it into the net. Later, Lisboa would double their lead as Dokoe would find Wood on the edge, who turns around his opponent to drive it into the net.
Lisboa would go on to win in a game Amsterdam dominated, claiming 5th place for now.
