Only one point separated the two sides, as both Belgrade and Istanbul opted for a defence first approach. The focus on defence would be effective, as across the 90 minutes, not much would happen in either of the halves.
In the 30th minute, Istanbul's creative full-back Leo De Deus Santos sent in a cross, which was punched out by Royal Savage. Had Istanbul committed more numbers forward, the rebounded would've likely been pounced on. However, Istanbul would have another chance before half-time, as Itumeleng Bodibe sent in a cross from a similar position, which was met by Darwizleton Dingle's failed bicycle kick attempt, narrowly missing the net.
As the half-time whistle blew, the Belgrade players were booed by the home fans, as they weren't satisfied with the defensive game plan. Istanbul, on the other hand, had a lively away end cheering on their terror inspired style.
Following frustration from the Belgrade stars, Istanbul would take command. In the 70th minute, right-winger Lassi was sent through on goal, with no defender in sight, it was a certain goal, until Royal Savage stopped the powerful effort.
The match would fizzle out, as the last 20 minutes was a constant battle for possession in the midfield. Istanbul left the match with a smile on their face, as their performance warranted three points. Their former captain leaving has seemingly had a positive effect, as they've already matched his record at the club. Belgrade are still in desperate for three pointers, as their start to the season haunts them. Belgrade finds themselves in 15th, whilst Istanbul climb up to 13th.
