Match Summary

Boyo’s return to London, spoiled by loss
By: Ray Porter

Matchday 12 was rounded off by Billy Boyo’s return to London Wembley Wanderers with his new team Deportivo Madrid. The sides that battled for the title last season are far away from a title scrap, while London sit in third, Madrid sit solidly at the top of the midtable stragglers. Boyo was often criticized for his defensive mindset when picking his tactics, but today he gave supporters a treat, allowing an attacking, free-flowing game to unfold.

London had the better start, as a long pass straight from kick-off by Amine Amzal found Tomar Jr. who turned elegantly, finding Yuri Haji in the box. The striker had no problem beating Jefferson, making it 1-0 to London after a minute was played. London fans didn’t have much time to celebrate though, as they were disappointed before the first 15 minutes were over: Lawbender intercepted a pass by Amzal in his own half and then started a spell of possession for Madrid, towards the end of that Moorishinho found Jase Ballenger lurking at the back stick, crossed to him and the striker had no problem heading it in from 2 yards out.

The game continued to be a very end-to-end affair, with both teams interested in giving neutrals a good show. If you haven’t already, you should watch it back. The game remained stuck at 1-1 for a long period. London would end up having the last bullet in the barrel, as the 75th minute arrived: Kalea Wilson was dispossessed by Ray Peest, after a couple of one-twos with Amzal, the ball was played to Ibanez Lopez, who sent in Matsude Kazui. The Asian had no trouble slotting it past a surprised Jefferson, who was left alone by his back line. Ibanez Lopez and Ray Peest deserve a lot of credit for this move.

London remains on a good course, keeping the title race a bit more open than the duopoly of Vienna and Zagreb.
