Vienna Kontinental 2-0 Istanbul
Jaxon shines in another Vienna victory
by: Domenico Jordano (Nightingale Press)
Istanbul had an unexpectably good season debut. 7 points in first 5 matches, with no defeats so far. But Vienna's streak has been much longer, tracing back to Season 1. This match, if not tied up, would bring the first season loss to one of the teams. Siefad Rahman created a good moment for Vienna just on 5th minute, but neither Jaxon nor Hoffman managed to turn it into a goal. Yet, Vienna's pyramid 4-3-2-1 allowed the team to keep the possession most of the time. On the 20th minute Blue's lead goalscorer Moritz Hoffman finally found a hole in Istanbul defense, which was quickly filled by Max Jaxon, who went on to score the opener. Istanbul responded by increasing the tempo. The match wasn't just host's possession play anymore, but rather a battle of crosses and counters between Austrian and Turkish sides. In the last 5 minutes Jaxon and Hoffman swapped roles for goal buildup, but Brodie Williamson stood still and prevented Moritz from extending his goal tally. Thus, first half ended with 1-0 score. Second half started with more confident play from the guests, but their high press only ended up with another attempt on goal from The Hope of Vienna. Again, it's Yellow's goalkeeper who saved the teammates. Still high press, still high tempo from the visitors, and this time Vienna didn't forgive their opponents. 2-0, double by Max Jaxon! Istanbul's hopes for a point were vanishing as quick as JMart creating new translations for Dos Reis' name. Leaders weren't keen on drying up the game and continued threatening the gates of Bosphorus instead. But the final result seemed obvious for both of the sides, and match ended as 2-0 in Vienna's favour. First loss for Istanbul, first clean sheet for Vienna in this season. Reigning champions once again proved to be unstoppable, and Max Jaxon went on to compete with Bendtner for Player of the Season.
