MD 18: VIENNA KONTINENTAL 2-3 LONDON WEMBLEY WANDERERS

Vienna stumbles to title rivals London!

By: Ray Porter

Vienna vs. London always has been an entertaining fixture, with London more often than not coming away with the better ending. This time both teams would fight for the Season 3 title, as with a win Vienna would extend the lead to 5, while London could close the gap to 2 points with a victory. Both captains used a fluently changing range of formations, based on the game state.

Vienna were riding the high of a 5-0 victory over Paris right into this game as they got off to a good start. In the 17th minute, after a bit of a back and forth between both teams, Bradley Keetch would lob a ball over the London defense, finding the run of Max Jaxon. The brightest star in FSL currently would keep his nerves against Pierre Toilet and score Vienna's first of the day. A couple of minutes later, Vienna would find a lot of space between London's lines, leading to Moritz Hoffmann getting a pass with his back to goal. The experienced striker would turn, then pass a through ball to new signing Jet Levasseur, the Canadian went on to score from a tight angle with Toilet looking subpar.

But Vienna's steam rolling would not continue, as London then took control of the tie. Just 5 minutes after Vienna's second, Maki Barnes received the ball after a Tomar Jr. & Peest combination, launching a through ball up to Amine Amzal. London's captain and all-time record goalscorer then slotted the ball home, closing the gap to one goal in the 36th minute. With half-time fast approaching, Tomar Jr. would score the equaliser in injury-time. After receiving the ball from Ibanez-Lopez, he turns the defenders Mungo Scruyazelv and Bernard Beckbauer to curl the ball into the top right-hand corner.

Vienna, in just under 10 minutes, bottled a 2-0 lead until half-time. And things would not improve for the champions: A Maki Barnes cross from deep would find Amine's run, clean on goal, the Moroccan would beat Kang to score London's winner.

Mungo's side were shown their biggest weaknesses as London comeback from a 2-0 deficit, courtesy of Maki Barnes' performance. The right back played a pivotal role in London's victory, providing 2 assists and ample defensive cover. Meanwhile, Vienna must admit that 3 shots over 90 minutes were not enough in a game that might come back to haunt them.
