Match Summary

MD15: Vienna Kontinental 2 - 1 Milano Calcio

Written by: Wolfgang Fötze

Vienna came into this match riding high on the back of two 6-0 victories, seeking to maintain momentum after a shock loss to Warsaw. Milan, on the other hand, struggled to find their form, managing only one win in their last six outings.

Right from the start, Vienna asserted dominance, taking the lead within three minutes from kickoff. Debutant winger Jet Levasseur threaded a precise through ball to Max Jaxon. Jaxon, continuing his sensational form, calmly controlled the ball and placed it past the goalkeeper across goal, marking his sixth goal in three games.

Vienna capitalized on Milan's defensive fragilities in the 12th minute. A well executed through ball from Hoffmann found Jaxon in the box, where poor defending from Milan allowed him to tap in from close range, putting Vienna in a commanding position.

Milan, determined to claw their way back into the game, nearly found success in the 34th minute when Carlo Marchetti struck a powerful strike from outside the box, only to be denied by the woodwork, leaving Vienna fortunate to maintain their two-goal lead as the first half drew to a close.

Milan opted for a tactical change during halftime, reverting to a setup with five defensive midfielders and a lone striker. The adjustment aimed to stifle Vienna's attacking threat and prevent further goals.

The change paid dividends for Milan in the 62nd minute when their captain capitalized on a through ball from Babatunde Agachuthu, striking it past Do-Yun Kang with precision.

Despite Milan's tactical alteration and midfield control with an overcrowded midfield setup, they failed to carve out clear-cut opportunities to level the scoreline. Vienna, disciplined in defence, held on despite Milan's pressure, ultimately holding onto their narrow lead until the final whistle.
