Zagreb handles business against newcomers Nomades de Paris By: Drew Peacock
Zagreb came away with all three points in what was a surprisingly tight affair. Paris continues to use their deep block defense combined with defenders rushing forward when possession changes hands. Zagreb, still using more experimental tactics and lineups, were hopeful that they would be able to put the match away early. The first goal came after both teams failed to unlock each other's defenses for 37 minutes. After a poor clearance by Paris left back Dudley Watt, Zagreb found the opener as Giosuppe Spaghettini was able to set up Bebe Barry for an easy finish. The score would remain 1-0 into half-time.
During the break, Zagreb brought on their super-sub Marcus Neagu once again. As it was in the first half, neither team was able to convert the limited chances they had, until the 81st minute. Zagreb was able to quickly shift from defense to attack, finding Scooter McGavin out wide with space. He then played the ball into Bas Kurt who backheeled the ball to Neagu who set up Barry for a first time shot that he slotted home neatly past the keeper to give him his brace.
The scoring was not over as Barry was able to complete his hat trick in the 88th minute. Alex Alpha, who came into the match as a sub during the second half, played a lovely ball over the top that Barry was able to calmly collect and finish. Paris was simply unable to get anything going offensively in this match, begging the question if a tactical change may be necessary to avoid going winless this season. The match would end 3-0 to the home team, Zagreb, and Bebe Barry was the man of the match.
