FSL Player Focus – Louie Franko
By Hingle McCringleberry
Our next FSL Player Focus is Cardiff wing forward Louie Franko. The Welshman joined the league in the S8 winter window. After a cup stint with Cork City FC, the speedy winger was picked up by league leaders Neeps & Tatties FC.
Who are you? “I’m Louie Franko and I play on the wing. I’m Cardiff born & raised. Something people don’t know about me is I have a tattoo of sheep across my entire back. Sheep are majestic creatures, they’re tasty, they provide resources, they feed themselves – I mean look at these things, I can’t imagine a more beautiful thing.”
What is your background? “Running is all I’ve ever been good at. Before football I’d never left the city, my first chance at Cork is when I realized I could do this. When Neeps came calling I knew I needed to move to Scotland. That was challenging, we didn’t speak the same language. Me father, he worked down the mines, his father worked in the mines, and his father, all I want is to play football, I’m a simple lad.”
Tell us about some of the turmoil you’re experiencing at Cardiff? “I returned home to Cardiff where the grass is greener and the sheep are prettier. I joined Cardiff with a new owner, John Larsson, and a disastrous, illiterate manager, Alfred Burgess . All I wanted was to play. Thank god Alfred quit, Alessio Leon came in, a proper workhorse that man. He’s turned around the slump and given me the minutes I’m so needing. The clubs come alive. Now the season is ending, Ellis is coming back and he’s straight told me I’m not getting any more minutes. SOLD. My own hometown club. This is bullshit.”
What kind of legacy would you like to leave on FSL? “I want to be the best RWF in FSL History on the conclusion of my career.”
Any additional notes? “Fuck Cardiff, get me somewhere I can play.” A fair response, thinks this reporter.
Author’s Note: Since our interview was conducted, rumors are swirling about Franko linking up with Ola Normann at Leeds City Association Football Club, a new start for this underdog. We’ll update this story when the season begins. (edited)1
