MD 17: KV BRUSSELS 2–3 AD LISBOA
Written by: Wolfgang Fötze
Both teams came into the match with mixed and inconsistent form, with both teams losing their last two matches.
The match sprung into life in the opening minutes as Saifeddine Tijani, Captain of Brussels, ran down the right wing, delivering a cross into the box. Augusto Rodrigues, left unmarked, used good technique to volley Brussels into an early lead.
Building on their momentum, Brussels continued their attacking power, with Ismail Hakimi providing another cross from the right wing. Rodrigues this time showcased his aerial ability, nodding in to double the lead, and it looked like Brussels were cruising to victory at half-time.
However, Lisboa refused to give up and looked to start a comeback. John Warhurst gave Lisboa hope, rising high to meet a corner with a powerful header in the 67th minute, narrowing the score and giving Lisboa belief.
Just minutes later, David Roy delivered a cross into the crowded box, met by Kenan Bosnic, whose sensational bicycle kick stunned the crowd and levelled the score, with fans crowning it as a goal of the season contender.
Lisboa used their momentum and applied more pressure to Brussels, and they took the opportunity to push for victory. The relentless pressure paid off in the dying minutes when a pass from Batmo Biel caused havoc in the Brussels defence. A deflection fell to the feet of Çağatay Yılmaz, who struck home a thunderous, curling first-time strike into the net, securing a remarkable comeback win for Lisboa in injury time.
