Match Summary

Madrid and London share the spoils in the title fight

By: Ray Porter

Matchday 6's prime time fixture would be in Madrid, as Season 1 champions and Season 2 Vice-Champions London WW would face the new Galacticos Deportivo Madrid, featuring THE superstar strikers Bobby Shmurda and Loørd Bendtner. With both teams destined for greatness this season, the game, although early in the season, could have an immense effect on the title race. You could feel the importance throughout the first minutes, as Madrid didn't hold back: after a calm spell of possession, Billy Boyo would launch a long ball in behind the London defence, Bendtner ran onto it and scissor-kicked the ball without a second touch past a shocked keeper. Within 3 minutes, Madrid created an unsurprising lead through two of the league's finest. Despite this, the game would then immediately fall off, as Madrid tried their best to destroy any run of play. Coming closer to half-time, however, London would find a chance to equalise as a one-two between Tomar Jr. and Ibanez Lopez would see the latter hit a left-footed shot from the edge of the box with the Madrid backline firmly behind the ball. Jefferson, seeing the ball far too late through his bangs, would end up punching it into his own net for the equaliser. Ibanez Lopez was credited with the goal, as he crowns an impressive midfield performance with a goal. The teams would have to settle with the draw for half-time. After the break, we would rarely see glimpses of the attacking potential that both sides clearly possess. Ray Peest would have a shot blocked by the Madrid defence in the 53rd minute, while shortly later being denied by Jefferson when through on goal. With chances far and few between, the game would stay 1-1 until the final whistle, as both teams can't possibly be happy with having dropped points in the title race.
