A Bosnian Brace as Berlin Beats Amsterdam

By: Drew Peacock

Darwizzy Whoñez stole the show tonight in Berlin for the first stage of The Lilacs FA Cup. The young Bosnian attacker was only recently promoted to the first team for Berlin and made an instant impact for his club.

The first half started off quickly, with both sides working hard to get into shape and push for an early goal. An early counter-attack lead to a penalty for the home side, and attacking winger turned wingback Pepe Lozano committed a foul in the box. Babatunde Agachuthu stepped up to take it, but his low shot was blocked away by Amsterdam's veteran keeper, Brodie Williamson.

Ten minutes later, Arlo Jones was unable to clear his lines and Berlin's captain Floyd Lawton sent Whoñez in on goal and his first time strike beat the keeper to take an early lead; Berlin 1-0 Amsterdam. Amsterdam worked to get back into the game this half, but they were thwarted multiple times by Steven May.

To start the second half, Amsterdam ditched the 5-3-2 and changed to a flat 4-4-2 in an attempt to get the equalizer. Unfortunately for them, it left room for Agachuthu and Whoñez to continue their absolute master class in attacking by creating several good chances. Their final attack of the game sealed it for Berlin as Agachuthu played in Whoñez, and he was able to beat Williamson for the second time; Berlin 2-0 Amsterdam. In just his second career start, he's given his side a two goal cushion that they'll take to Amsterdam in the 2nd match of the cup.
