Belgrade Triumphs in Relegation Six Pointer
By: Wolfgang Fötze
With a dismal record of both teams losing their last four matches each, the stakes were high, and the outcome of this match was bound to have an impact on the relegation battle. The first half of the match began in a cagey fashion, with both teams cautious in their approach. Athens took control of possession, dictating the pace of the game, but struggled to create any meaningful chances. In fact, the first 45 minutes concluded without either side managing to register a single shot on target. As the second half kicked off, the spectators were eagerly awaiting a breakthrough. The match seemed destined to remain locked in a stalemate, like the first half, until the 83rd minute when the game finally came to life. Belgrade, against the run of play, mounted their first serious attack of the match. Semmi delivered a precise pass inside the box, finding the feet of Myth Bobo who unleashed a powerful, top corner strike that left the Athens goalkeeper with no chance, finally breaking the deadlock. Belgrade wasn't done just yet, and they capitalized on the momentum they had gained. In the 88th minute, Semmi was once again at the heart of the action, receiving a pass just outside the box. With quick footwork, he turned an Athens defender and fired a shot towards goal. The ball struck the post and went in, doubling Belgrade's lead and all but sealing the match. This win for Belgrade not only ended their four game losing streak but also propelled them out from the bottom of the league. On the other side, Athens, languishing at the bottom of the league table, now faced a battle to avoid relegation.
