MD 18: KS WARSAW 0-1 FK BELGRADE

Belgrade's fine form continues as the Polish experiment fails once more.

Written by: Saad Maan, Forta Evening News

As four points separated the two sides, Belgrade look to close the gap between themselves and the rest of the pack. Warsaw, still without an interim captain, won their last match but have only picked up 3 out of 15 points from their last five matches.

It was Belgrade who would take the match to the Poles, with Warsaw getting a couple of poor shots off the counter. Belgrade's pressure would be rewarded in the 32nd minute, as Myth Bobo took a hopeful shot from outside the box following a scrappy sequence, as the ball bounced around. Ricardo Mendez-Gomez will feel hard done as despite getting the last touch on the ball before reaching Bobo, he wasn't credited for the assist.

Belgrade would keep up the pressure, riding their wave of momentum gained by the opener. In the 43rd minute, Björn Weizenbaun reached Abdi In Zukolo's cross, but a brilliant save from O'Brien was enough to stop the powerful header.

As the whistle went for half-time, Belgrade were happy with the game state. A goal up and with seemingly everything going for them, they felt confident to see out the match. As previously mentioned, Warsaw still lacks a captain, and went into the second half with the same setup.

As the second-half went on, the tired legs became apparent. From the 75th minute onwards, the sides would trade chances as the ball went down one side just as quick as it went up the other. Belgrade would start the sequence with Vagina Alphale's bicycle kick attempt was saved by Francis O'Brien. Warsaw would then go up the other end, sending Leckie Jr through on goal. The young striker's inexperience would show as he struck the post.

The match would end with a 1-0 scoreline in the favour of the Serbians, with Myth Bobo's long range goal standing as the game winner. Warsaw, despite losing, climb a position due to goal difference.
