The Lord sends Vienna through the first round of the Cup
By: Ray Porter
Vienna, currently in 1st place in the league, went into their game against the inferior Paris with a 1-0 lead from the home leg. Paris, however, had the home field advantage now and their captain Boama, who has rejuvenated a bland side into serious contenders.
The first half didn’t go well for both sides, as they were bland in attack, the only good attack coming from Paris, as Tyler Hunt put in a cross during a counter-attack, but Semmi would head the ball over the bar.
In the 51st minute, we’d see our first goal: After a Vienna power play, King Hart found Bendtner in the box, who turned his defender, shot, and scored into the bottom right corner. But Vienna’s lead in this match wouldn’t hold for long, as a Deli Espresso cross would find its way into the 5 yard box uninterrupted, where Karl Lehmann toe-poked it home. A shocking defensive display from Vienna revived Paris’ chances of going through.
But after 82 minutes, those hopes were broken, dead and buried. Hoffmann, after losing the ball on the wing, started to press, winning the ball in Paris’ box and crossing it to two of his teammates. There, Bendtner headed in the cross for his brace. With a 3-1 aggregate lead, Vienna lent back and let the game run its course, as they qualified for the next round.
