Vienna and Brussels Settle for Goalless Draw

By: Wolfgang Fötze

Both teams were in great form, Vienna came into the game with three consecutive victories under their belt, while Brussels had won three out of their last four matches, leaving fans expecting an exciting battle. The early minutes passed without much action until the 13th minute when Vienna had an opportunity to break the deadlock. Siefad Rahman played an over the top through ball, finding Moritz Hoffmann in a promising position. However, Hoffmann's touch took him too wide, and his attempt from a tight angle went wide. The match remained tightly contested, and chances were a rarity. It wasn't until the 43rd minute the game had its first big opportunity. A free-kick to Brussels awarded about 19 yards from goal, presented a prime opportunity to open the scoring. Anto Vuković stepped up to take the set piece but unfortunately hit it straight into the wall, squandering a huge chance to put Brussels ahead. In the 73rd minute, Siefad Rahman had a golden chance in a 1v1 situation against the goalkeeper following a pass from Max Jaxon. However, Rahman couldn't find the target, putting the ball wide, much to the frustration of the Vienna fans. Throughout most of the second half, both teams struggled to create many opportunities, with Brussels adopting a defensive 5 at the back formation that stopped Vienna's attacking opportunities. The organized defences ensured that goal scoring chances were scarce with the game finishing in a 0-0 stalemate. While neither team secured the victory they wanted, they can find some fortune in maintaining their recent good form and ensuring they remained difficult teams to break down.
