Going into the match, Brussels KV captain Saifeddine Tijani had made significant tactical alterations, opting for a more narrow formation against Amsterdam's defensive block.
The changes would be proven to work, as Brussels' passed their way through Amsterdam's defense, failing to score the chance - which would be proven to be costly. In the 16th minute of play, Brussels forward Adrian Diego had a prime goal scoring opportunity, which he missed. The forward's failure to convert any chances whatsoever would be the theme of the night.
In the 44th minute, clinical as ever, Amsterdam would take the lead through an unlikely goalscorer. It was the former Brussels full back, John Smith, who'd step up and score Amsterdam's only shot of the night. Amsterdam, as we know them, would continue to defend for their lives as Brussels pushed on.
