MD 11: VIENNA KONTINENTAL 4-2 DEPORTIVO MADRID

By: Nicklas Ulykke

The highly anticipated clash between the title holders and a strong Deportivo Madrid side. The star-studded game featured attacking talents like Bobby Shmurda, Loørd Bendtner, Lennox Vito, Moritz Hoffmann, Max Jaxon and Bradley Keetch.

The opening 25 minutes were dominated by Billy Boyo’s Madrid. 30 minutes into the game, against the run of play, Bradley Keetch finished off a beautiful team goal to make it 1-0, with Hoffmann heading a Jaxon cross down towards Keetch.

The goal opened the floodgates and just two minutes later Max Jaxon doubled the lead with an extraordinary overhead kick after a wonderful Matheus Dos Reis cross.

In the 40th minute, Moritz Hoffmann added a 3rd for Vienna, controlling an incredible lofted pass from Keetch and finishing well past Madrid goalkeeper Raeshaughn Jefferson.

At half-time, the tie looked all but over, as Vienna Kontinental had a 3-0 lead. Madrid needed something special to get back into the game, and Boyo would have to fire his team up during the half-time break.

Just nine minutes after the restart, Lennox Vito pulled one back after an amazing play between their attacking trident. Loørd Bendtner intercepted a sloppy pass from the Vienna defense and combined with Bobby Shmurda, who in turn put it on a plate for Lennox Vito, who calmly put the ball in the back of the net to make it 3-1.

Just two minutes later, Bobby Shmurda added a second to make the deficit just one goal. Vito’s astounding vision set Shmurda up for a one-on-one with Do-Yun Kang, and he capitalized on the opportunity.

Even with a rejuvenated Madrid, Vienna were too powerful for them and Moritz Hoffmann added his 2nd and Vienna’s 4th goal late on to seal the game, Bradley Keetch assisting once again with an impressive lofted pass.

The game ended 4-2 and Deportivo Madrid could have felt unlucky as their leaky defense was at fault for most of the goals, as they dominated possession. However, credit must be given to both side's attacking wise as the forwards, especially, showed their incredible talent. The win pulled Vienna 3 points clear of closest competitors as they hold on to first place, and Madrid dropped to 4th place, picking up their first loss of the league campaign.
