THE AMSTERDAM-LISBOA RIVALRY

Matthew Lennon announced he would leave FC Amsterdam to become captain of AD Lisboa next season before the start of the FU League Cup. Amsterdam have lost every game since, and are rock bottom of their group. Various reports say that there has been an ongoing feud between Lennon and captain Jack David, so we looked to delve deeper into that and the problems at Amsterdam.

Before announcing his move away from the club, Matthew Lennon played every game bar 1 during the time he played in the Dutch capital. Lennon started out as a right back in Preseason, but more or less spent the majority of his time deployed at right centre back in Amsterdam’s back 5. Amsterdam finished 4/6, with Lennon impressing throughout, despite their disastrous form towards the end of the “season.”

However, FC Amsterdam struggled to finish 7th in Season 1, narrowly edging out one of the worst teams in FSL history, FC Berlin. The boardroom gave the impression new teams were coming next season, and they did. Lennon was eyeing up a move due to Amsterdam’s barren form and found himself unable to turn down an offer to captain AD Lisboa next year.

Lisboa, the most popular of the 4 new teams coming to FSL, have similarities to Brazillian side Flamengo, known worldwide for their domination in South America. They’ll look good wearing “rubro-negro” colours next season, and they give the impression that they’ll play good football too.

However, previously mentioned David isn’t impressed. He has criticised Lennon on many occasions recently, and even subbed him off at half time against London. Jealous? Also, to add fuel to the fire, new Amsterdam signing Çağatay Yılmaz has already been linked to the Portuguese club. The young player is reportedly interested in the move.

We contacted FC Amsterdam Captain Jack David for his say on the matter, but much like when Amsterdam go a goal down, there was no response.
