ZAGREB BOUNCE BACK AGAINST NORDEN

Match Report: Norden vs Zagreb Matchday 2

By: Drew Peacock

After both teams had disappointing opening days, Norden and Zagreb came our of the tunnel with something to prove. Norden brought out the same lineup as the week before, hoping to get the goals they felt they deserved last time out against Berlin. Zagreb made some small changes to the system that saw them lose 2-0 to promoted Hamburg. The first chance of the game came in the eighth minute as captain Scooter McGavin whipped in a cross from the right flank, finding the head of Henry Kamel but his effort hit the frame of the goal and out for a goal kick. Ten minutes later, the English striker had another opportunity to score a headed goal, this time delivered from the left side by Shugaar Plum, but the attempt went wide of goal. Norden striker Kenan Bosnic was able to find room to shoot in the 22nd minute, his shot saved by Owen Majmunovic. Shortly after, an interception by Scooter saw Zagreb flying for a counter attack with Marcus Neagu playing Kamel in behind the Norden defense where he finished cleanly to give the visitors their first goal of the season: 0-1 Zagreb, lead 27 minutes played. In similar fashion, a Shugaar Plum interception started another counter attack on the left side this time. Plum found Jethro, who saw Kamel beating his man with the same run in behind for the first goal. Norden, having no answer for this move, conceded a second time. Henry Kamel's brace gave Zagreb a two goal lead with 31 minutes played. Zagreb would get a third goal before half-time, again started by Plum. Plum, Kamel & Jethro created a triangle of one-two buckle my shoes on the left side as reinforcements arrived. Plum, seeing the run of Scooter, quickly crossed the ball in and Scooter's headed effort was enough to beat the Norden keeper. Zagreb would take this three goal lead into half-time. No changes from Zagreb during the break, the home side came out with more emphasis on attacking and winning the ball back initially. Zagreb very nearly got a fourth goal through Jethro, but his header hit the frame of the goal. As the game came to a close, the Norden side had nothing left in the tank, not enough to keep Zagreb from taking a clean sheet and three points back to Croatia.
